Skills Needed To Pass

What I’m about to say next may surprise you. Based on this title, you’re probably thinking that I’m going to recommend that you brush up on your grammar, or maying your geometry – and while you’ll need to do that, I honestly think your best bet is to:

  1. Be confident
  2. Increase reading speed (including comprehension)
  3. Master the clock

Let me go over each of these now.

If you walk into the test center (or are taking it remotely) and you feel certain that you’re going to fail, guess what fellow teacher, that’s exactly what’s going to happen. You honestly NEED LANTITE prep that empowers you TO BELIEVE that you are going to pass.

Sure, you need to know grammar, spelling and technical writing to pass the LANTITE Literacy Component. Then, you seriously need to have your algebra, geometry, and statistics down- but not at a genius level – far from it, but instead, at that solid secondary school level. You learned it a while ago, and it’s literally presented on your exam, in real-life, word-problem format, which doesn’t make things easier, but you’ve done it before and you can do it again. For excellent refresher lessons, I made a lot of LANTITE video lessons to help.

So all that to say – know your content – that’s a must, but also, don’t forget to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!

Alright next, increase your reading speed! THIS IS IMPERATIVE! Keep the 80/20 principle in mind when completing your test. Instead of going for perfect, slice off the big bits that you know, and make educated guesses when you must. But back to the reading. Actually read our cheatsheet (the one linked for free in the form above) – then, when you really want everything you need to pass in one place, seriously get our full LANTITE Prep program. Reading the study guide again and again, which has many quizzes will help you out so much. You’ll be so glad you got it.

Lastly, MASTER THE CLOCK. I don’t know about you, but that countdown timer freaks me out when I’m taking an important exam – like as if we didn’t have anything else to worry about. Now, there’s this timer in our face while taking the test? But hey, that’s why our full-length practice tests have the same amount of questions and the same time limit as what you’ll receive on test day – so you can practice again, and again, and again.

Hey future teacher, passing LANTITE isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s GO time. Strap on your running shoes, give me 5 push ups, and let’s get you pruned to ACE this exam!

Complexity

Is LANTITE a hard exam?

Well, the text passages that you’ll receive on exam day will vary in difficulty based on factors such as linguistic style, organizational structure, and how familiar you are with the content. The interaction between text complexity and question difficulty allows for a range of questions that target different levels of difficulty.

Literacy Component

Time to do a deep dive into the literacy section of your LANTITE. I’m not going to cover the high level info, such as how many questions you’ll need, but instead aim to give you that added value of information you may not have been aware of.

  • Reading: About two-thirds of the questions focus on reading comprehension, organized into three processes:
    1. Access and Identify – Finding and understanding information.
    2. Integrate and Interpret – Connecting and making sense of information.
    3. Evaluate and Reflect – Critically assessing and thinking about information.
  • The reading questions use various text types as stimuli:
    1. Procedural, Regulatory, and Technical – Texts that explain processes, regulations, or technical information.
    2. Descriptive, Informative, and Persuasive – Texts that describe, inform, or persuade.
    3. Narrative – Texts that tell a story.
  • Technical Skills of Writing: The remaining one-third of the literacy test assesses writing skills in four key areas:
    1. Syntax and Grammar – Correct sentence structure and grammar usage.
    2. Spelling – Accurate spelling of words.
    3. Word Usage – Appropriate use of words in context.
    4. Text Organisation – Logical arrangement of ideas and information in writing.
